Atul Bhalla is a contemporary Indian artist known for his diverse body of work, including photography, video art, installations, and performance.
He is recognized for his interdisciplinary approach and his commitment to addressing pressing environmental and social issues through his art. Bhalla's art often engages with environmental issues, urban spaces, and the relationship between humans and their surroundings. One of his notable works is the "Piaus". Series of twenty faucets in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi illustrate the dilapidated drinking fountain's some of which date back to 1740. These faucets, which once provided clean water from nearby Yamuna river to the community now bring to the inhabitants severely polluted water from the same river which has been infested by sewage and chemical contamination.
He is currently a Professor at the Department of Art & Performing Art, School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Shiv Nadar University in Delhi.
