This exhibition in the Gaur Gallery was curated by Aurogeeta Das.
The Gaurs started collecting Indian indigenous art in 2011 when they acquired a seminal work by Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam, which had been exhibited at the iconic exhibition “'Magicians of the Earth'' at Centre Pompidou (Paris) in 1988. At that time, not too many collectors were collecting this material, and the Gaurs were able to add many seminal works by some the most important indigenous artists in India. This exhibition showed their newly acquired works from Gond and Warli tribal regions and folk art by Mithila artists and Bengal Chitrakars.
This exhibition was re-curated by David Szanton of the Ethnic Arts Foundation and Aurogeeta Das and it travelled to eight museums in North America. The re-curated exhibition “Many Visions, Many Versions: Art from Indigenous Communities in India” also included works from some other collections to present a large-scale comprehensive exhibition of these artists. The travelling exhibition was organized by International Arts and Artists.
