Many Visions, Many Versions: Art from Indigenous Communities in India was the first comprehensive exhibition in the Nort America to present contemporary artists from four major indigenous artistic traditions in India. It includes art from the Gond and Warli communities of central India, the Mithila region of Bihar, and the narrative scroll painters of West Bengal. Featuring 47 exceptional paintings by 24 celebrated artists including Jangarh Singh Shyam, Ram Singh Urveti, Bhajju Shyam, Jivya Soma Mashe, Baua Devi, Sita Devi, Montu Chitrakar, and Swarna Chitrakar, among others, Many Visions, Many Versions reflects an aesthetic that remains deeply rooted in traditional culture, yet vitally responsive to the world at large.
